Therapist
Wade Besemer, MA, LPCC, LADC
My motivation to become a therapist originated from my personal journey, which involved the realization my choices and lack of healthy coping skills had brought me to a low point in life. I made a decision to change the course of my life, identify and deal with underlying issues, and develop new and healthy coping skills to become the best version of myself.
The life you always dreamed of is possible. Healing unresolved hurts and traumas is possible. Developing healthy coping skills to manage mental health symptoms related to anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders is possible. My goal is to walk with you on your journey as you become the best version of yourself.
My theoretical foundation, and the lens through which I view human behavior, is largely based on Adlerian Psychology. Each person is an individual and possesses a unique set of beliefs, perspectives, and coping mechanisms which developed as a result of their lived experiences. Difficulties with self-concept, with developing and maintaining healthy relationships, with finding purpose and fulfillment, and with other symptoms associated with mental health disorders often result from these learned behaviors developed during childhood. Coping mechanisms developed during childhood are often effective at the time and in the current context, however, problems arise when these learned behaviors become engrained and are not replaced by healthier coping skills more appropriate for adult life.
Prior to becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, I worked as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug counselor in an outpatient treatment setting for 8 years. Although I specialize in addictions and co-occurring disorders, I am also experienced working with anxiety, depression, trauma, bi-polar disorder, grief, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
